Rasheed Hamiid Akir was born in Ennis,Texas in February of 1964 under the name John Fitzgerald Kennedy Craig Birdow. His father L.D. Birdow an iron worker and his mother Mary leeanna Spurling a seamstress. He is the third-born son  of five boys.  His creative side was shown first by drawing cartoons from comic books. He later developed a love for writing and quickly took to poetry. As a young adult he excelled in sports and academics but poetry stayed his true love. At the age of 19 he joined the army and quickly won friends by writing poems for them to send their girlfriends back home. His mother passed in 2000 which brought his love for poetry back as a way to release the pain.This led to him putting together this book of poetry, a collection of poems written over a period of his lifetime. This book covers forty plus years of the author's life. In it you can see the development of his mind from boy to man.

 

  You can also see Mr. Akir in several episodes of Walker Texas Ranger and in the Big screen movie ( Any Given Sunday). Mr. Akir is currently working on his next book of poetry to be titled ( My Words prt 2). The author also encourages people who buy his work to send him a photo of them holding the book. It will be added to his web site, a place where people who love poerty can come and blog about poetry and how it relates to them.
